> ZHENIT Project

ZHENIT – Zero waste Heat vessel towards relevant ENergy savings also thanks to IT technologies is a Horizon Europe project that aims to significantly reduce the energy consumption and emissions of ships by recovering and reusing waste heat normally dispersed on board. The project develops and integrates innovative Waste Heat Recovery (WHR) technologies at different temperature levels, supported by digital energy management tools and hybrid propulsion solutions. Through real-world validation, ZHENIT targets up to a 25% reduction in fuel consumption on the pilot vessel, delivering both economic benefits for shipowners and environmental gains in line with IMO and EU decarbonization goals for 2030.

> TRUSTEE

TRUSTEE is a Horizon Europe Coordination and Support Action that underpins the EU roadmap to Zero-Emission Waterborne Transport by 2050. The project delivers evidence-based foresight scenarios for 2030 and 2050, pinpoints the most promising ZEWT use cases, and builds a comparative, multi-dimensional assessment framework covering environmental, social, technological, financial and operational aspects (including workforce and citizen safety). With broad stakeholder engagement, TRUSTEE maps systemic and sector-specific barriers and issues actionable recommendations to speed up ZEWT deployment in Europe, alongside open-access outcomes such as scenarios, a technology-readiness review, an assessment framework and a learning pack.
